Good Eats: Gastropub in Pangyo

The next time you’re in the Pangyo area, you might want to check out Gastropub in France Avenue.

Gastropub in Pangyo offers a really great atmosphere. During dinner hours, there’s usually a quiet, reserved atmosphere of people. Even on a Saturday, the place was not crowded - which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you like. This place is definitely a restaurant where you take a date. The lighting is low, comfortable seating, and mostly adult patron. I wouldn’t suggest large groups or marathon drinking sessions here with all your buddies (even though they do offer an option to purchase unlimited beers for 2 hours). Also, the restaurant is conveniently located only a few blocks from Pangyo Station from the Sinbundang Line and within eyesight once stepping out of the exit. However, trying to hail a cab during the later hours has always proved difficult the last few times I paid a visit, so definitely think about that if dining on a day of inclement weather.

The food was delicious, but a tad pricey. I got the cheeseburger with fries and a drink and my friend got the wagyu steak. The pricing on the food was a bit high, but expected for a place in a prime spot and especially since foreign foods almost always come at a mark-up. One thing about the burgers is that you order your side dish of fries and a cola separately. If you’re on a budget like, well, everyone, then you could also check out the Johnny Rockets on the same floor. They might be the number one challenger to the best burger in Avenue France, if not the champion. The wagyu steak dish was certainly a highlight. I claim ignorance about Japanese wagyu steak, as I had not heard about it until coming to Korea, but apparently Kobe beef is one type of wagyu. The dish at Gastropub isn’t a dish that you can get everywhere, so definitely try it if you’re in the mood for a little taste of fine dining.
